Australia 2006

Last spring, I received an invitation to Spring Revel Downunder (Oct 5-8), one of Australia's premier gaming conventions.

A four-day business trip quickly gained an eight-day vacation, and we were on our way.

One of the many highlights of our trip was a delightful showing of Pirates of Penzance at the Sydney Opera House.

If you only have time for one activity in Sydney, make it the Harbor Bridge Climb. It's a good physical workout and offers the best views in the city.

Take the sunset climb if you can--it combines spectacular daylight and nighttime skyline views.

Darling Harbor is one of Sydney's tourist areas, and includes a fantastic aquarium that features nifty underwater tunnels through seal and shark tanks.

This grey nurse shark was about as far above my head as your monitor is from your face.

As we discovered at the Australian Reptile Park, not all Australian wildlife is vicious, venomous, or both (despite many Aussies' proud claims to the contrary).

The fur of the koala (not a reptile, despite its presence at this park) is extremely soft, like a sleek cat's. Coincidentally, the koala also sleeps most of the day (due to the poor nutritional value of eucalyptus).
